Day 44 - 28 Chev Ute Restoration (23rd September 2015)

Been too cold the last few nights but managed to get a bit of time in the shed the last 2 nights to spray up a set of rear springs in primer and full gloss black after they were re-bushed.

If all goes well I will have them assembled over the weekend.

2015 Doveton Show at Myuna Farm

The weather was perfect for the annual Doveton Show at Myuna Farm, where the Dandenong Valley Historic Car Club put on a display of  vintage and classic cars.

Even the local police joined in with a lot of interest in a 1923 Rugby Buckboard

Day 43 - 28 Chev Ute Restoration (19th September 2015)

What a great day. Headed off to Trafalgar at 4.30am, meet up with Grant Fowler and a friend of Grant's,  Eden, the local Metal Polisher, who not only loaned us his car trailer for the day, but also his time.

The destination was Maffra at 8.15am to collect a 1928 Chev rolling chassis and a trailer load of spares.

By lunch time, after a mandatory stop at the Heyfield bakery, and a talk with the local publican who came over for a chat, the parts were safely tucked away in storage at Trafalgar.

Now what to do, what to do?

But in the meantime Grant and I have a good stock of spare parts.

Thanks again to Grant and Eden for your assistance.

The 3rd Generation to enjoy the Red Chev

May there be many more, and I hope my grand daughter Ashley remembers her first ride in the Red Chev.

Not to be left out Jackson joined in the photo session

And is that little tacker in the back seat Ashley's mum during the Boronia Lion's Christmas parade back in the 80's?

A Rusty Chevrolet Berra-Swe

By Bertil Jensen using a few pictures from my blog

Day 42 - 28 Chev Ute Restoration (12th September 2015)

This posting could also be titled "Red Chev Back Home & Some Very Good Luck"

The Red Chev came home today after being on holiday at Chris and Emma's house at Narre Warren since May.

Grant Fowler  http://montythe1928chevrolet.blogspot.com.au/ and I have purchased a collection of 28 Chev spares from a Chev guy who is moving to Queensland and selling off the parts that he has collected over the last 40 years.

This purchase will give me the bits I need to finish the 28 Ute, and Grant a healthy stock of spares for Monty the 28 Chev.

Next Saturday will see a very early 3 hour road trip to collect the parts in the pictures below, which include a rolling chassis,.with disc wheels and tires, 2 spare engines, extra gear box, set wooden spoke wheels, rims, disc wheel front end, numerous panels and guards, vacuum tanks, and other bits and pieces.

Day 41 - 28 Chev Ute Restoration (9th September 2015)

With a bit of work for the Red Chev also

Started working on 2 sets of rear springs, one for the Red Chev, the other for the ute.

They looked pretty good on the outside and I was almost going to just clean them up, re bush and then re-spray.

Refer previous project rule....................... Do it once, do it right

So like everything else so far, springs were pulled apart

It turned out to be the right decision, you can see the rust between the contact areas of the leaves.

Out comes the angle grinder with the wire brush, then a few coats of rustbuster
