Bit of Brake Work on The Red Chev

Decided it was time to adjust the front brakes after the 122 k run last weekend.

In the process came across a problem that Grant and I had with Monty the 28 Chev a couple of years back.

When either reversing at low speed on spinning the wheel when the car is on an axle stands the brakes grab suddenly, caused by wear in the lower brake shoe pin allowing the shoe to twist enough to grab the drum.

An easy fix by peening in the edge of the pin hole in the backing plate, enough to close up the hole and solve the problem.

You can see the slop of the pin hole on the right hand side

Stripped, cleaned and ready to go

The original linings were ok, about 40% worn, but thought I would use a fresh set of brake shoes Kevin Smith prepared for the ute project. The worn shoes will be fine on the ute.

New linings.......Nice

All set and ready to go

Test drive went fine, will let shoes bed in for a few weeks and then adjust.
