The purpose of this Blog

This blog is to detail my 50 years (1973 - 2023) with a 1928 Chevrolet tourer, affectionately called "The Red Chev".

The acquisition, restoration, improvements and my experiences over the years are covered in as much detail as I can remember.

Some of the later postings include car club outings and other vintage car items that I hope will be of interest to people.

If you have the time, scroll back to where it all began in 1973 and follow the journey so far.

Thanks for dropping by.

Regards Ray Dean

Red Chev did not want to start

Went to fire up the Red Chev to move it out of the garage for a bit of house keepng, and no way would she start.

Checked power at the coil, power at the dizzy and plenty of petrol. Took out the plugs, no sign of flooding.

Took of the dizzy cap, a bit of muck on the contacts, cleaned that off, then checked the points, cleaned and reset as they were a couple of thou under spec.

Still no start, checked for spark starting at the points, very weak at the contact but stronger if I shorted the arm with a screw driver.

Pulled the points out and one face had a nipple of crap which hadnt cleaned off when they were in the dizzy.

Through them to the dead parts bin, new points and Red Chev bursts back into life, all is forgiven.

Would say it was a combination of muck on the dizzy cap contacts and the points
