With 28 heads getting pretty thin on the ground, finding a perfect head is becoming more difficult.
Head no 1 (found this on Ebay)
Looks great, blasted, and ready to recondition.
Except for one thing, a crack from the center water outlet
This would be an easy repair, using the drill, tap and plug method
Head no 2 (also found on Ebay)
With one difference
A substantial crack has been repaired
Head no 3 (The Red Chev from 1973 to 2012)
This head was reconditioned in 2012 because of a burnt out exhaust valve.
But, from 1973 to 2012 this head ran perfectly with a drilled, tapped and plugged repair. The original 1973 repair was checked in 2012 and given the all clear.
During the 39 years this head was on the Red Chev, the engine boiled dry on at least one occasion, indicating this repair method is very robust.
